The Ladies' Shooting Poney

Description

A lady, depicted in profile to the right, supports the gun she is firing upon the neck of her pony. The horse remains indifferent and continues to graze. The lady is dressed in a full skirt with a feathered hat and heeled shoes. However, she wears a masculine-cut coat over the top and carries a hunting horn over her shoulder. This satirical work reflects contemporary sportsmen’s amusement in the participation of women in traditionally ‘manly’ sports.
