Thomas Cribb

Description

In 1805, Tom Cribb fought his first fight against the veteran bare-knuckle boxer George Maddox, whom he defeated in 76 rounds. In the same year, he beat Thomas (Tough) Blake and Ikey Pig but lost to George Nicholls. He easily beat Bill Richmond in October but did not fight again until his first victory against Jem Belcher in 1807. In 1808 he beat Horton and after Gully’s retirement, claimed the championship. Beating both Bob Gregson and Jem Belcher in 1809, Cribb fought the black American boxer Tom Molineux in 1810.
