Description
Three days after his defeat by Cribb, Molineux challenged the champion to a return. The match for 300 guineas took place on 28th September 1811 at Thistleton Gap in Rutland. Cribb was in splendid shape after rigorous training and weight reduction at the seat of his main backer, Captain Barclay. Molineux had made no such preparation and toured the country with Richmond and Belcher giving sparring exhibitions to raise money to repay the stake money that he had borrowed. The match attracted great interest and a huge crowd gathered eager to see the contestants enter the ring.
