Description
Jack Randall was born in London of Irish parents and learnt to fight at the Archery Ground near Russell Square. The most accomplished middleweight of his time, he won all his 15 fights by knockouts. After a series of early victories, a match was arranged with Belasco, a rising star. The fight is considered one of the most scientific and interesting bouts on record, with both boxers at the peak of fitness. Randall won in seven rounds lasting 54 minutes. Abrahams Belasco, quite a small man, failed to live up to his early promise when he decisively beat ‘Coal Heaver’, a pugilist patronised by Tom Cribb. After retiring he became involved in a world of gambling and brothels.
