A to Z of artists Bidder, Joyce 1906 - 1999
Joyce Bidder was a sculptor who worked in a wide variety of materials: metal, marble, slate, ivory, various hardwoods and earthenware. She studied at the Wimbledon School of Art and later with S.N. Babb. Her subjects, in her own words, were: "all natural things, but on the whole I have treated them as subsidiary to the human form." She was joined by Miss Daisy Barnes ARBS in her Wimbledon studio in 1933; both worked in high and low relief as well as in the round. Joyce Bidder’s glazed earthenware has great charm, and her sculpture which is vigorous, stylised and elegant was exhibited at the Royal Academy, Society of Women Artists and the Royal Society of Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Engravers.
