Description
Tom Molineux was a slave owned by an English planter named Molineux whose name he took. The planter’s son accepted a challenge of $100,000 (U) to match one of his friend’s slaves against Molineux. Molineux was reluctant and so was promised his freedom and $500 if he won the match. He won convincingly and set sail for England as a free man determined to become a prize-fighter.
