Description
The younger brother of Jem Belcher, Thomas was only 5’9” tall and weighed under 11 stone. He did not contend the championship but defeated many heavier men in his 11 year career. His greatest fights were against Dutch Sam who beat him in two of their bouts and a draw was declared in the third. After retiring in 1814, Tom became publican of ‘The Castle’ in Holborn, the pub becoming the virtual headquarters of prize-fighting for over 40 years. Tom was another prize-fighter chosen as a pugilistic page for the coronation of George IV.
