Art and the the country House is a major research project conceived and lead by the Paul Mellon Centre. The project was edited by Martin Postle, Senior research fellow at the centre.  

In this lecture Martin will talk about the Art and the Country House project which at its core is the study of the collection and display of art objects in historic British properties from the sixteenth century through to the present day building on generations of scholarship the project seeks to introduce new perspective The foundation and character of collections are investigated catalogued and questioned. The display of art objects with in country houses are recovered and reconsidered. Martin will talk through some of the discoveries and conclusions of the project.

Prior to his present appointment in October 2021, Martin was Deputy Director for Grants and Publications at the Centre. Between 1998 and 2007 he worked at Tate as Senior Curator and Head of British Art to 1900.
